Welcome to Great Priory Farm
Great Priory Farm is an arable farm situated near Panfield, North West Essex and home to Leaf & Soul courses. As well as producing wheat, oats, barley and beans, we also have a small livestock enterprise on our smallholding at the farm house. The smallholding is managed using organic principles, and as well as growing fruits, salads and vegetables for use in the kitchen and catering for our courses and visits, we keep rare breed Dexter cattle for beef and have a small flock of Suffolk -cross sheep for lamb and mutton.
We are lucky enough to have ancient woodland on the farm, and are host to several Forest Schools, in partnership with local primary schools and Essex Outdoors. Parkhall Wood is a designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) owing to the lime beetle found there, and more information can be found on our Conservation page. 2011 sees the launch of several exciting projects on the farm, including the our programme of courses, hosted in our 15th century thatched barn. Courses cover everything from bread making to mosiac art, from keeping hens in the garden to green woodworking, and include a home grown lunch. More details can be found here. We are delighted to be able to host visits from schools, each individually tailored to suit your requirments and fully facilitated. More information can be found here. As well as school groups, we are able to host visits from other interest groups and parties. See the Farm Visits page for more information or contact us. Keep up with news and events on the farm through Leaf & Soul, Emma's blog, tracking our adventures in rural, sustainable and creative living. |
